Cultivation methods in Ethiopia
Ethiopia is the original home of the coffee plant. It is said that the first coffee bushes grew there in the shady mountain forests of the high plateaus.
There are many legends about the history of coffee and its discovery as a stimulant and cultural drink.
Coffee plants were first smuggled from here in the 16th century, first to Yemen and then to Indonesia via the port city of Mocha.
Ethiopia's coffees are uniquely diverse and distinctive. The most important classifications of these original Arabicas are: Gimbi, Harrar, Limu, Yirgacheffe and Sidamo.
The green coffee beans are usually small to medium-sized, deep green-bluish to green-yellowish in color and have a rough surface.
The highest qualities are achieved through a special cultivation method in which the forest in which the wild and planted coffee bushes grow is carefully and very carefully thinned out so that the forest structure is not impaired and additional fertilization can be dispensed with.
