Where does the Robusta bean come from?

Robusta is a coffee bean that is mainly grown in Africa, Asia and South America. In contrast to Arabica beans, also known as coffee beans, Robusta beans are firmer, have a higher concentration of caffeine and are lower in fat.

Properties

Robusta beans typically have longer, wider and larger pods than Arabica beans, which makes them more resistant to pests and diseases. This makes them well suited for growing in less than ideal areas. Robusta beans have a spicier flavor than Arabica beans and are generally less sweet. It has a strong acidity and is slightly bitter. Robusta beans are generally used in espresso blends as they produce a stronger crema and last longer. Due to its lower cost compared to Arabica beans, it is also often used in cheaper coffee blends.

Another important difference between Robusta and Arabica beans is their caffeine content. Robusta beans typically contain about twice as much caffeine as Arabica beans, which makes them more attractive to caffeine lovers. Robusta beans are often used in energy drinks as caffeine is also a stimulant. However, there are also some disadvantages to using Robusta beans. It is less sweet than Arabica beans, therefore less aromatic and lacking in complex flavors. It is also less popular with coffee lovers who prefer the subtle taste of Arabica beans.
